The Cult Of Phra Ngang (榜眼教派)

Phra Ngang is a fable character but it is worshiped by Casanova in East and West, male and female as believers think Phra Ngang can bestow them with super attractive power to gain money and power.

Many people contacted me just because they wanted to get their hands on this Phra Ngang manual. Now I will reveal this Phra Ngang practices to you for your references.

Please bear in mind that I don't believe in Phra Ngang and hence, I am not sure what will come to you once you follow the invocation ritual and recite the mantra.

As far as I know, none of those who aimed for women/men and money through Phra Ngang had any good endings. Many people ended up in court cases and lost what they possessed after a while.

The ritual in this blog refers to the 'standard Thai Phra Ngang', the Cambodian Phra Ngang ritual has already posted. Perhaps I shall move the two Phra Ngang rituals in one single blog.

Finally, your discretion is advised when reading such materials.

Black Hole & Light Theory (黑洞与光论)

I do occasionally received some interesting visitors and this is just one of the many:

A lady dropped at my place and we started to chat just about anything until she suddenly blurred out:

"When you have seen the light, you are already in a black hole!"

I got a stunned and starred at her. Feeling uneasy of my odd expression, the lady started to explain:

"Well, you see. Isn't it is true that black hole sucks just about everything including light? If you see the 'LIGHT', then you maybe already sucked into the black hole already..."

Hmm... The lady did has a point: If you are not already in a black hole, how can the LIGHT come to you?

Somehow long after the lady left, her black hole and light theory echoed in my mind for a very long time until I decided to put it down before I forget this ingenious theory.

To put it more philosophically though, we can interpret the saying according to our own perspectives:

If we are worldly folks, the above sentence can be read as:

"Oh, shit! We realized too late!"

If we are of more religious type, then we can read the sentence as:

"Pray to the LIGHT before it is too late!"

Of If we are of more scientific and futuristic type:

"Our spaceship is already in a black hole..."

There are many way to look at the 'theory of black hole and light', how would you see it?

Grave Keeper's Stories (守墓者的故事)

One night I was passing beside a Malay cemetery and stumbled across Pak Samad who worked as a grave keeper. So we habitually started to chat and coincidentally the sky started to drizzle. Since none of us had the intention to cut short our conversation then; Pak Samad invited me to a Mamak stall to have a cup of 'tea tarik' (pulled milk tea).

After a few sips of thick milk tea, I was curious if Pak Samad had any bizarre experience while working in the graveyard. Perhaps that had triggered Pak Samad's chatter box and he started to talk. So as to encourage him to talk further, I ordered two pieces of 'roti canai' (flying pancake).

Perhaps food can really close the gap between people, once our stomachs were filled; Pak Samad started to talk:

Unlike burial customs of other religions, Muslim burial service should ideally be done as soon as possible upon death, or at most within 24 hours.

So, in many occasions Pak Samad must work in the middle of the night to prepare for the forthcoming burial requests.

One midnight as Pak Samad had completed some work in the cemetery he worked in, just as when he was about to leave, he suddenly heard weeping sound came from the further end of the graveyard.

Pak Samad was curious as no one would be visiting graveyard in the dead of the night. Due to curiosity than fear, he ventured to the grave where the weeping sound came from...

As he was approaching the grave, he saw a man was squatting beside a grave and continued to weep. Pak Samad approached the man from behind and then tapped the man's shoulder and said: "Brother, what are you doing in the graveyard in the middle of the night?"

The man stopped weeping and turned his back. When Pak Samad and the man met face to face, Pak Samad saw that the man has no eye balls... instead, the man's eyes were just hollow holes... The man is not human!

In a state of fright, Pak Samad took a step back and fell backwards and sat on the floor while crying out the God's name loudly...

When Pak Samad wanted to look at the person again, he has vanished. After some frantic search around the cemetery area, there was no one there except Pak Samad.

In another occasion, Pak Samad was looking for a pair of tombstones in the storeroom at night preparing for a burial service scheduled at dawn. After searching high and low, the tombstones seemed to have disappeared.

Pak Samad was certainly in a state of panic as he may be blamed by the deceased's relatives for creating troubles and inconveniences in a few hours' time.

As a last resort, Pak Samad decided to dig into the store room again for a last check. Just as when he was searching frantically while bending his back, he heard foot steps walking into the store room from outside.

It was a series of 'thump, thump..." and the sound stopped right at Pak Samad's back. He thought it might be the gravedigger, Ali. So Pak Samad turned his back and opened his mouth: "Hey, Ali..."

Before Pak Samad could finish, his jaw dropped and there he saw a man holding a piece of tombstone that Pak Samad was frantically searching for. The man was quite cold without facial expressions. He asked Pak Samad: "Brother, can you show me my grave?"

Pak Samad was stunned as he has never seen the man before but before Pak Samad could scratch his heads, the mysterious stranger has vanished! In place, there was a pair of tombstones that Pak Samad had searched throughout the night!

And in one more occasion, Pak Samad was taking a night watch in the cemetery, he heard a lady's voice calling his name...

So, Pak Samad traced the voice to a huge tree in the grave. As he approached the tree, he noticed an awfully foul smell similar to rotten flesh. When Pak Samad approached beneath the tree, he instinctively raised his head and...

There he saw a woman in white was sitting on a tree branch waving her hands at Pak Samad... Without second words, Pak Samad ran as fast as possible into the cemetery store room and recited some prayers to calm himself.

The rain soon stopped, before we parted; I asked Pak Samad what motivated him to continue his carrier as a grave keeper. And his answer was quite philosophical: "Well, we all will die some day. I might as well get used to the graveyard before my time is up."

Introduction To Taoist Spiritual Practices (道法通灵)

Taoist magic is perhaps a lost art in Asian countries now a days. When quoting 'Taoist magic', I consciously exclude the 'ceremonial school' (科仪派) as this school cannot represent Taoist magic communities.

We can perhaps catch a glimpse of more complete Taoist magic rituals among the Chinese minorities such as Yao and Miao tribes. Although Taoist magic comes with many varieties, their structures are almost similar.

The first step is always the 'spiritual practices' (通灵术). These 'spiritual practices'  comprised of a set of exercises aimed to purify a student's soul and enhance his/her soul power (灵力). It is hoped that eventually this inspired Taoist practitioner will be able to communicate and receive further teachings from his/her grand master from the other side.

It is perhaps fair to say that Taoist spiritual practices are a set of foundation practices for a Taoist before embarking on more advance and harmful rituals. It is hence very important for a student to pay particular attentions at the initial stage or he/she will find him/herself helpless and not making any progress as he/she proceeded to a more advance ground.

Unlike the Western magic schools, Taoist magic schools do not particularly label themselves as 'good' or 'bad', 'white magic' or 'black magic'. As we shall see later, all Taoist magic schools have some sort of good and bad magic. This is coincided with the Yin-Yang philosophy.

The basic structure of Taoist spiritual practices are basically the same:

  1. The guru's ritual (度师法)
  2. The purification ritual (水法)
  3. Spiritual enhancement rituals (练形法)
  4. Meditation method (静坐法)
  5. Eye opening (开眼法)
If we examine the above structure carefully, we would notice that the above rituals should be practised consecutively: one follows the other every morning. These rituals are also normally a Taoist's daily opening ritual.

Once someone has mastered the foundation practices, then he/she can proceed to healing rituals, cursing or blessing rituals as we shall see...

If you are interested in Taoist spiritual practices in Yao tradition, then below is the link:

I have to apologize that all materials are in Chinese at the moment. The reason is obvious: if I translate them into English, I will not have the time to complete posting.

The Restless Sister (不能长眠的姐姐)

Mr. Chong's sister, Jane died in a freak accident a few years ago in KL but since Chong's parents were free thinkers, and that Jane was still single then; no dead ritual was done for Jane then.

A few weeks ago, Chong contacted me to ask me to perform a 'soul calling' (招魂) for Jane because he dreamed of Jane consecutively for a few nights. The dreams were quite identical as recalled by Chong: Jane would appear in front of Chong wearing blood stained clothing begging him to 'bring her home'.

Since Jane died for quite some time now, I was not confident if it was possible to summon Jane's soul as she might already become wandering spirits and that she may not be staying around the place where she met her doom.

Nonetheless, we went to the place where Jane died and performed a short soul calling ritual with Jane's old clothing. Immediately after the ritual, Jane was summoned into her clothing and it was brought back to Penang for further deliverance ritual.

I was not very fond of performing dead rituals for the dead. So, I passed the job to another Taoist. As I sat in an arm chair in a corner dozing off due to tiredness, the chanting of the Taosit sounded like lullaby song and I quickly entered into my dreamland.

Suddenly I saw a lady came before me. Before I could open my mouth, she introduced herself as Jane.

Jane started to say: "Can you help to advise Chong to be careful as I have helped him 4 times already or else he would already be accompanying me by now. After tonight, I won't be able to help him anymore?"

Before I could make head or tail of what Jane said, she disappeared and I was awakened by a few drops of water sprayed by the Taoist for purification purposes.

I waited until Chong was available and pulled him aside; and asked if he had experienced any life and death matter lately.

Chong stunned and quite reluctantly he quietly said: "I had some near missed which nearly took my life:

The first incident happened when I forgot to pull my hand brake as I parked my car on a slope. My car plunged into a 10m ravine but I was just in time to get out of my car.

The second incident happened when I was trying to help a friend to fight a robber. I was stabbed in my abdomen but the advancing knife was stopped by hitting my phone...

The third incident occurred when I was opened my car door to check on my tyre beside a highway. A lory came from behind and hit the door nearly missed me. I could only think of the worse if I came out of my car a few seconds earlier...

The fourth incident occurred one week ago, a wooden chair fell onto the floor beside me when I was walking below a flat..."

After hearing Chong's story, I told of my very strange dream about Jane. Chong silent for a while and said: "It was Jane alright. She was always take caring of me since small. Maybe she can finally rest in peace."

Tiger Of The River: Toman (淡水之虎:多曼)

I visited Mersing again with Yusof a few months later. He drove his four wheel drive into a native village just before the Mersing town.

The rain started to fall not long after the four wheel drive entered into a mud lane. It wasn't a pleasant journey that I can tell you: our vehicle passed through streams, mud pools, went up slopes and uneven terrain. I once suspected that I could hear sounds of my internal organs banging into each other.

Luckily, the rain stopped after we arrived at a river mouth where fog could be seen congregated momentarily before being dispersed by wind blowing down from the valley.

Tropical trees grown in abundance on both sides of the bank; millions of water droplets fell from the trees following the bellowing of the mountain wind.

One particular spectacle monkey attracted my attention as it jumped from one tree branch to another.

At one point the monkey dived till the lowest point of a tree branch and created the river water to splash. With the springing back of the tree branch, the monkey swiftly returned to the tree top.

I became attracted by the monkey's game and started to pay attention to it. After the monkey repeated his game of swinging up and down repeatedly a few times, during the final time that its tail entered into the river; a giant snakehead suddenly torpedoed up from the bottom of the river toward the monkey. The snakehead opened its bloody mouth filled with saw-like teeth and it bit the monkey.

Before the poor monkey could scream, the predator fish and the monkey both fell into the river and disappeared leaving the river water to be stained with blood.

Other monkeys on the tree were stirred with fear. They shook the tree branches and screamed loudly. The commotion lasted for a minute or so but their unfortunate companion would not return.

While I have heard of monkeys being attacked by predator animals like snakes and tigers, this was the first time I witnessed a monkey attacked by snakehead!

I would have guessed the predator fish to be more than 10kg in weight judging from the way it swam and jump out from the river. This fish should be much heavier than the one that was caught by a French in Thailand. His game fish was then weighing 7.5kg IGFA record.

Toman is perhaps at the top of the food chain in Malaysian fresh waters. However, it is not a fish of choice in restaurants as its meat is rough and tasteless. Toman also has no known medicinal effects.

As far as I know, snakehead fish is hunted because anglers like the thrill of struggling with the fish and the sense of victory when the giant snakehead is finally being pulled out from the water.

The Fresh Water Killer (淡水杀手)

A lake can become barren due to over-harvesting. So can a river.

A few years ago, I bought a new artificial fish bate and wanted to try my luck. So I visited Yusof and together with a few friends, we went to a river flowing through the heart of a jungle near Mersing, Johor to fish.

According to Yusof, a decade ago, the location was a place filled with many varieties of fresh water game fishes: toman (snakehead), sebarau (hampala), red and green kelah (mahseer), giant catfish, belidah (Asian knifefish) and etc.

It was a treasure chest of precious tropical fishes but now there were hardly any big fishes left. Well, since we were already at the place; we just had to try our luck and pray.

I cast my bate into the middle of the river and slowly retrieving the fishing line. The fish bate moved swiftly swayed left and right as if a small fish negotiating river current. Not long after that, I felt there was a bite on the line and my fishing rod took a dip.

It was quite a small fish judging from the bent of my fishing rod but I wasn't ready to let it off the hook. So, I relaxed my fishing line a little to prepare for a tug-of-war game with the fish.

The cunning fish swam into grass beside the river bank. I managed to tighten my fishing line and managed to pull the fish away from the grass and into my view. I tried to prevent the fish from swimming into dead woods which would cause the line to be entangled and snap.

After some struggle, the fish seemed to be lethargic and the line felt light. I hastily retrieved my fish line and just as I saw the fish head and about to pull it out of the water; suddenly I felt there was a strong tug and the line again dipped into the water.

In a split of a second and while I was lax, the fishing line was being pulled away me into the middle of the river. In a rush, I quickly pulled up the line and it managed to take load again. The fishing rod became full bow and I thought that I was caught by surprised by a large size fish instead of a small one.

Before I was preparing to start another tug-of-wall with the fish, the fishing line suddenly became lose and I thought the fish had finally gave up struggle. So I happily and quickly retrieved my fish line... And before I could show my victorious smile, to my surprised; my fish only left with its head opening and closing grasping for air...

Maybe it was really the case of a hunter being hunted. It was the hard lesson given by the killer fresh water fish that roams Malaysian waters: the infamous toman fish (giant snakehead).

After the incident, Yusof consoled me and brought me  to his fish farm where I can fish freely for some siakap fish (Asian sea bass) without the fear of my prays being consumed by larger fishes.

The Betta Fish Magic (斗鱼术)

In old Indochina, mountain tribes used to practise a type of magic that has no parallel in the Western world. The Chinese call it 'gu' (蛊) and the Thai call it 'phi phop'.  I call 'gu' as 'mountain-wind' taken from I-Ching.

The method of practising this 'gu' is simple: first a few types of poisonous creatures such as snakes, scorpions, lizards, toads, centipedes etc. are placed inside a small urn. The urn is sealed and buried underground. After 49 days, those poisonous creatures would devour each other until the very last one.

This last survivor is known as 'gu' and it has magical power that can bind with the practitioner's soul and bestow the person with wealth and power. The type of 'gu' depends on what creature is left: if a snake is left, then it is the 'snake gu'.

Personally speaking, keeping betta fishes are just like practicising 'gu' magic because there is only one winner among all of those betta fishes. The process of getting the 'king betta' is similar to putting betta fishes into a tank and let them fight each other to death.

Except for keeping a betta fish as ornamental purposes, it is difficult to judge which betta fish is the best fighter for gaming intent.

The fierceness of a betta must be cultivated from within. The judgement must be made from the continuous battle stamina of a particular fish due to the fact that it is not possible to judge a betta fish from its colorful appearances like other ornamental fishes.

The mind of a betta fish can bind into the keeper's mind over time. When my betta fishes opened up their gills and stared at me with their totally black eyes, I would feel a sense of chillness perhaps due to the hidden and more powerful spirits behind those small creatures.

From my own experience of keeping betta fishes for many years, the betta fish nature can be shown in the keeper's human nature. Hence, by looking at the behavior of a betta fish master, I could perhaps understand the battle ability of the betta fish.

For example, if the fish owner looked fierce, cruel and arrogant; then his betta fishes would behave as such as betta fishes should not be too 'merciful' so said.

In earlier years, most betta fishes are caught from the rivers and their battle ability depends on a person's luck and the genetics of the fish. Though there were many uncertainties, the fun part is that all of those fishes were 'free-of-charge'.

Now a days with so many cross breeding and sky rocket prices, I am no longer interested in keeping commercially produced betta fishes as they all lacked the 'touch of the nature'.

Betta fishes should ideally be fed with life bate such as worms or larvae of mosquitoes as life bates increase the fierceness of betta fishes. I used to feed small betta fishes with life bates and after only one month, their untamed violent behaviors starting to show.

I used to purposely let mosquitoes sucked my blood and waited until the mosquitoes are filled before slapping them to dead. The combined mosquito with human blood were then fed to my beloved betta fishes. While watching the betta fishes consuming those bloody mosquitoes, I felt as if I was feeding 'ghost kids' (鬼仔).

In order to increase the battle power of betta fishes, there is a mantra used to empower those fishes. I have posted the mantra in the blog if you are interested.

Body Locks (封身)

Almost all Asian magic traditions has one type of 'body locking' method or another.

In Thai magic, there are two types of 'body locks': the active and the passive.

The active body locking method applies to an aggressive person and wild animals, while the passive body locking applies to the body of the magician himself.

For example, if a magician is facing an insane and mentally sick person who is about to attack the magician, then this magician will chant 'om arahan' and blow a breath at the person to stop being attacked by the lunatic.

Similar active body locking method can be used to treat wild animals in the jungle too.

On the other hand, passive body locking method applies on the body of the magician himself for his own protection normally before this magician is about to take a long journey and that there are potential dangers along the road.

Old folks believe that whether a person is dead or alive, he should make all efforts to let his family members known. This is perhaps not a problem in modern times as the messages can be sent across very quickly.

In old time when a person must travel over hundreds of miles between two villages that were separated by maiden jungles, then a reliable method to make sure the person arrives at the destination 'dead or alive' is very important.

In traditional Thai magic, passive body locking ritual will ensure that a potential traveler reaches his final destination by whatever means. Even in today's situation, this passive body locking is still relevant and I myself am practising it consistently before I go into a jungle. Hence the effectiveness of body locking ritual should not be doubted.

The body locking ritual works on the belief that a person will not die if his soul and body remain intact. So, body locking is actually locking one's body and soul together with the help of the person's guardian spirit.

Once a passive body locking ritual is performed, the magician would be in a semi-trance state and the spell would remain so long as he does not consume water and food. In order to prevent the body locks from becoming void during a journey, foods should be taken in a specific way which differs from master to master.

In common practice, simple body lock ritual can be done by chanting a mid-length mantra accompanied with simple hand gestures. This common body lock ritual should be 'unlocked' once the magician arrived at a destination normally by invoking the help of 'lersi' or his lineage master or no one will notice his presence.

There is a more extensive uncommon body lock ritual that incorporates the immortality ritual. This is a more extensive ritual that requires a practitioner to spend one hour a day over a period of 9 months.

Personally, I like the simple one best however. If you are persistent, then you will find that Thai magic is a day to day magic and it is very practical.

Ghost Stories From Genting Highland VII (云顶鬼故事VII)

The Counting Game (数人游戏)

Have you heard this type of game before? Well, to others; this is a type of senseless spirit communication game liked by youths once upon a time.

This story went back till the time after my O Level exam.

One week after the examination, a group of my friends and I, 7 girls and 7 boys decided to go to Genting Highland for a visit.

We checked into 1st World Hotel and though we spent the day together in the theme park,at night the boys decided to go to the casino to try out luck while the girls decided to stay in the hotel room to chat.

After a while, one of the girls, Lisa suggested that they played a type of spirit communication games. No one objected and the game hence started.

There were two beds in the room, so the girls managed to join the beds and all of them laid in the bed. So as to increase the effect of the game, the room lighting was dimmed until only the silhouette of the players can barely be identified.

Lisa rose up and started to count: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7...

Then Mary who was beside Lisa continued: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7...

Then Alice also counted: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7...

The first round of counting went on pretty daunting for first few rounds until it was Lisa's turn again: She again counted 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8...

Wait, this couldn't be correct. But Lisa thought it was only her mind that was playing the tricks in the dark.

Then Mary continued to count: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8!

Alice also counted 8 and there is apparently an additional person hiding within the girls. Who was the 8th person?

The counting game continued until the last person, that is the 8th person stood up... All the girls at once looked at she or rather 'it'. It has extremely long hair that covered the whole body. Though its face cannot be clearly viewed, its long sticking tongue did observe to be hanging out until waist level.

Lisa started to yell out 'pontianak!' (female vampire) and rushed out from the room... and the rest of the girls followed closely behind.

The girls were just on time to bang into the boys who came back from the casino. The gang entangled together and fell down on the door in the corridor.

After entangling ourselves, Lisa told us their ghostly experience but none of us wanted to believe. So, we accompanied the girls to their room and there we all saw 'it' waving at us outside of the window...

Needless to say, the 14 of us cramped into one room for that night until the next morning. And we skipped the breakfast and hasitily rushed down the Genting Highland first thing in the morning.

Ghost Stories From Genting Highland VI (云顶鬼故事VI)

Puppy From Hell (地狱狗)

Once my aunt went to Genting Highland with her family. My uncle was gambling in the casino; my cousin brother, James was playing computer games in the entertainment center while my aunt and my cousin sister was already resting in their hotel room.

Since the entertainment center closed at midnight, my cousin had to return to the room to rest.

According to James, he suddenly developed an uneasy feeling while he was opening the door. He felt there was a cold breeze followed him in but he thought that it was just his over active mind after hours of staring at the computer monitor.

After taking a quick shower, James hit the hay in another bed beside his mom and sister's.

About half an hour later, James heard something was scratching at the front door. So, he went to open the door and as soon as the door was opened, James saw a cute white color puppy wriggled at him.

Feeling surprised, James turned his back to call for his mom: "Hey, mom! Look what I found!"

"Oh! Shuht up and go to bed!" My aunt was too lazy to patronize his son.

James shrugged and before he was to turn his back and shut the door, the puppy was no where to be found.

James shrugged again, closed the door and returned to his bed.

Perhaps it was due to the excitement of computer games, James flipped and turned in his bed and he just couldn't sleep. Suddenly, he saw the mysterious white puppy jumped into his mom's bed and then started to jump up and down and over his mom and sister.

That has certainly agitated my aunt and she start scolding: "James! If you don't want to sleep, I want to!"

The commotion halted and the puppy vanished into thin air. James was feeling quite indignant as he has done nothing wrong but he couldn't explain what had happened.

After a while, James felt a fluffy stuff jumped into his bed and crawled into his blanket. Then he felt something was licking his soles and he felt itchy and giggled: "He! he! he! Stopped it!"

James's giggling voice has again agitated his mom and again she scolded: "Boy! If you don't want to sleep, go outside!"

Felling frustrated, James said: "It was the PUPPY!"

At this point, my aunt came out from the bed, switched on the light and came to James's bed: "What PUPPY!? Your dad will learn of your mischievous behavior!"

Before James could open his mouth to argue, James, his mom and sister all heard some fierce gnawing and scratching sounds outside of the room. It sounded like a huge animal tried to enter into the room from outside.

The horrific sounds persisted for a few minutes and then suddenly halted following the noise of someone was opening the door... Panicked, my aunt picked up a drinking glass on the table and threw at the door as it begun to open.

A figure entered the room and it was my uncle... And the drinking glass missed my uncle's by a few inches and it hit the wall opposite the door and shattered.

Stunt, my uncle said: "Just because I came back late, you don't have to kill me... And, what was there a white puppy rushing out of the room?"

Of course, no one wanted to talk about the bizarre incident and the mysterious white puppy until they returned from Genting Highland.

Until today, my uncle still thinks that my aunt was angry at him because he has lost some money in the casino that night...

Ghost Stories From Genting Highland V (云顶鬼故事V)

The Woman Who Combs Her Hair (梳頭女郎)

About 5 years back and during a public holiday, my friend Paul and his colleagues decided to go to Genting Highland to try luck.

Since the gang didn't has the habit of trip planning, they found that the hotel has already fully booked. Just as before the disappointed folks decided on a returning journey, a hotel staff suggested that they should try the Ria Apartment. Well, since the place was purportedly to be haunted, not many brave heart ones dare to stay there and hence, there should be some empty units left even during peak seasons...

Though the suggestion was not really a welcoming one, the folks have no choice but to check the apartment out... and they were 'lucky' to find an empty unit waiting for them.

After Paul and his friens have unpacked, they were quite eager to try their luck in the casino. But Paul suddenly felt uncomfortable and he decided to take an early rest while his colleagues went to gamble.
There was nothing Paul could have done but to lay in the bed and self pitied for a while until he felt drowsy and dozed off.

After a while and in a state of haziness, Paul opened his eyes to look at his watch and it was around 1:30am. And, suddenly... he saw a woman in white sitting at the corner of his bed and combing her hair.

At first Paul thought that he was just dreaming so he continued to doze off...

When Paul awoke for the second time, it was around 3:15am and the woman was still combing her hair with her back facing Paul. Now Paul could have a clearer look at the stranger as she was just sitting so close to Paul that he could smell the scent of her perfume.

Now that Paul became so scared that all of his sleepiness has gone to nowhere. He could only pull up his blanket and hid underneath in the hope that the 'whatever the figure was' will go away while shivering.

After hiding in the blanket for sometime, Paul thought that the mysterious figure must be gone and he ventured his head out of the blanket and... now Paul saw a very pale face of a woman that came so close as he nearly kissed the face if he would move slightly more.

Then Paul heard a disembodied voice: "I have been waiting for so long... You are finally here..."

Paul was devastated and he hysterically jumped out from the bed and yelled out from the bottom of his lungs while rushing out of the room, and then the apartment to the main lobby.

There, Paul spent the rest of the night in a couch until his pals returned. All of them decided to return home first thing in the morning even though this is the first time Paul came to Genting without entering the casino.

Do you believe in Paul's story?

Care For Your Life (生命关照)

Many lives lost during school holidays or long holidays because these are times when we and our family members gathered together to spend time.

Having spent most of our times in the office or factory, most of us are oblivious on the approaching danger out there in the wilderness.

Although there are many books on survival techniques in the wild, most of those techniques are not relevant to our local tropical environment.

I am not a survival course expert but just to mention a few points that could save you from approaching dangers that could spoil your holiday:

Forests:

1. Avoid walking in the forest after heavy rainfall or on windy days. Tree branches may fall onto those passerby and cause serious injuries. Poisonous animals or insects may fall onto whoever was under the tree.

Slopes:

1. During rainy seasons, if you notice that water flows out from the edge of a slope and that there are signs of cracks on the wall of slope; then stay away from the slope as there are possibilities that landslide may occur.

Open area:

1. Avoid jogging or walking in an open area such as a recreational garden after or before rain as there are possibilities of lightning strike.

Rivers:

1. Torrential floods (山洪):

Torrential floods take many lives in Malaysia every year. It is best to avoid swimming in a river or picnic near river bank during rainy season. However if you must go to the river, there are tell tale signs if torrential flood will happen:

a. If once clear river water suddenly turned muddy accompanied by some tree branches and tree leafs. If gentle breeze is felt blowing from the upstream direction, then torrential flood is almost certain to occur.

b. If it is known that the upper stream of the river is experiencing heavy rainfall.

2. Leptospirosis (鼠尿病)

a. Avoid going into a river during dry season when the water is less as there are possibilities of leptospirosis infection. This is true if there are food stalls nearby the river bank. Animals such as rats or even monkey may not only bring leptospirosis but also leeches and the river may be contaminated by trashes thrown by other visitors.

On the road:

1. Avoid driving at night especially on rainy nights through woody areas. It is also best not to drive during 4am to 6am as this is the period that accidents tend to occur.

There are many more pointers to be added to the list as I have only just mentioned only a few based on my past experiences. Perhaps you can work out a list on your own and educate your loved ones so that at least dangers can be reduced to minimal.

Ghost Stories From Genting Highland IV (云顶鬼故事IV)

The Story Of Genting Staff Hostel

It was said that the hostel for Genting staff is comprised of 7 buildings. Among all, the 5th and 6th building were female hostel.

The 5th building was 24 stories tall and from ground floor to the 19th floor was the hostel for single ladies where 3 person sharing one room. Beyond 20th floor would be the hostel for managers or married staffs.

There were a total of 40 rooms in one floor with a lift lobby in the center.

My former schoolmate, Mary and Kate worked as temporary staff after their A Level examinations to earn some pocket money. Both of them lived in the hostel for single ladies in the 5th building. They shared one room with another lady stuff.

A strange incident occurred when Mary and Kate's room mate was on leave.

It was around 11pm at night and Mary and Kate were in bed about to sleep.

Just as when Mary was about to switch off the light, she heard someone was knocking at the front door. So, she went to open the door but found no one was outside or anywhere near it.

Though curious, Mary returned to her bed and about half an hour later; the strange knocking happened again. This time, Mary approached the door and peeped through the view port at the door but she see no one again.

She decided to ignored the knocking and continued to sleep.

The next morning, Kate fell sick. According to Kate, she saw Mary opened the door for the first time and a black shadow followed her in.

Before Kate could say anything, the black shadow has already jumped onto her and she immediately felt an immense pressure on her chest causing she difficult to breathe or even shout. Apparent Kate was experiencing some kind of hag-ride.

Kate's ordeal persisted until 5am or so and the pressure on Kate was suddenly lifted. By then Kate was feeling exhausted and she was quite sick and the company doctor decided to send Kate to the local district hospital.

With two of her roommates away, Mary was a little wary but there was nothing she could do but to spend most of her time outside until the time she was too tired to think of supernatural things.

Before Mary hit the hay, she prayed to whatever holy names she could remember and after double checking that all the doors and windows were secured, she switched off the light.

A few minutes later, sounds of door knocking was heard again. Only this time, the knocking seemed to come from inside of the room...

Mary pretended that nothing had happened and hid her head under a big pillow shivering.A few minutes later, she felt the blanket near her feet was being lifted and something was tickling her soles.

She immediately jumped up and there she saw an old man was smiling playfully at her while waving his fingers with long sharp nails.

Without giving a second thought, Mary gave out a sharp shriek and rushed towards the door towards the room of another colleague, Lucy.

Although Lucy and her roommates didn't quite believe Mary's story, they let her in and slept on the floor until dawn.

Early in the morning, Mary inspected her soles and saw a few bloody scratching marks...

Needless to say, Mary tendered her resignation immediately and returned to her hometown.
Kate has never returned as her grandma visited a spirit medium and Kate was advised not to 'go up the mountain' for her safety.

It was after many years that I heard this story being told to me by Mary herself.

So, beware of midnight knocking on your door! You might invited something into your house without your notice.

Ghost Stories From Genting Highland III (云顶鬼故事III)

The Restless Housemate

This is a story from a 19 year old young lady, May:

May has just completed her SPM examination and she and her best friend Jess went to Genting Highland to visit her old neighbor, Alice. Alice's father owned an apartment in Genting Highland and both girls thought they could have a free stay while May can have some catching ups to do with Alice.

By the time May and Jess arrived at Alice's place, it was just past 9 p.m.

After some unpacking, the girls chatted until 12 midnight. Suddenly Alice felt hungry and asked if both of her visiting friends wanted to tag along.

Jess agreed but May felt she was somehow tired and wished to take a nap. So off Jess and Alice went out leaving May alone in the apartment.

Not long after both ladies left and enough time for May to start dozing off; there was a knocking on the front door.

Though feeling strange as it was quite impossible for her friends to return so soon, May went to open the door and to her surprise, a stranger girl was standing in front of the door holding a burger in her hands.

Before May could ask, the stranger said: "Your friend asked me to pass this burger to you!"

Once said and before May could react, the stranger tugged the burger into May's hands and left. Though feeling very strange, May returned to her couch and put the burger on a tea table opposite the couch.

As May was about to doze off again, there was another knocking on the front door again.

Again, May went to open the door and there stood both of her friends; Jess and Alice.

Jess said apologetically: "We are so sorry, May! We bought you a burger for supper but we left it on the table of the restaurant we visited..."

"What!?" May exclaimed.

Jess repeated: "We left your burger in the restaurant. It is too late to return to get it now... We are so sorry..."

Now feeling very strange, May pointed at the burger on the tea table and asked: "Is this burger you meant? I thought that you asked your friend to pass it to me?"

The trio looked at each other baffled... No one dares to touch the burger until the next morning...
The ladies spent the whole day outdoor and in and around the casino. They retired to their small apartment in the evening.

Jess decided to call it a day but May and Alice still have a lot of catching up to do; so Jess went to take a hot shower before hitting the hey.

About an hour later, Jess rushed out of her room with extremely pale face. With shivering voice and pointing her finger at her room she said: "Ghost... ghost..."

Both May and Alice thought that Jess was just playing a joke or being too tired, they accompanied Jess into her room to investigate.

As soon as the trio went into Jess's room, the room door suddenly slammed shut with a loud bang. Whatever they tried could not get the door to open.

Then, the window suddenly burst opened from outside by a gust of freezing wind. And the silhouette of a girl was seen hanging on a tree just outside of the window. Worse still, the ghostly figure with long dropping tongue waved at the ladies...

The trio screamed horrifically and passed out.

When they became conscious again, they saw the security guard and Alice's parents were surrounding them. The concerned folks asked what had happened to the ladies and they told what they had experienced.

Hearing the story, the security guard nodded and said: "I could remember that a young lady hung herself on the tree branch sometime ago after being jilted by her boyfriend... And that unfortunate lady was once a tenant in this particular room..."

After being enlighted by the guard's story, May and Jess decided to flee the scene as soon as possible. Though May continue to visit Alice afterwards, she would not go into that horrible apartment again.

Ghost Stories From Genting Highland II (云顶鬼故事II)

Vietnamese Kumanthong In Genting

This story is perhaps just rumors told by some foreign friends.

A few months before the hotel opens for business officially, a dozen of pregnant ladies were brought from Vietnam to Genting Highland. The expecting mothers were being housed in various rooms in the hotel.

All of the room windows were being covered with thick curtains so that no light would penetrate in. All of the mothers were near their delivery dates and that they just stay inside the rooms. All the mothers' needs were taken care by the Vietnamese man.

After the delivery dates, the mothers were seen left the hotel one after the other with their slim features with no signs of pregnancy. Strangely, no voices of baby crying was heard or the scene of mothers carrying their babies were seen.

One thing in common though was that wind-bells were seen hung at the front door of the rooms where the mothers once stayed. In addition,tid-bits and toys were found being placed in the rooms.
Rumors had it that the babies were being processed into 'kid spirits' and bounded into the wind-bells by sorcerers. The purpose of the kid spirits is to entice hotel room guests to gamble in the casino generously. In such a way that the casino business would bloom.

A business man came to Genting for a business deal and he stayed into one of those rooms with a wind=bell. During the night, he heard a tiny voice spoke beside his ears: "Since you are free, why not try your luck in the casino and get some windfall."

The man figured that the voice has some sense so he proceeded to the casino. And, truly, he won a few thousands of dollars. Just as when he wished to call it a day and returned to his room, the mysterious voice was heard again: "Since you are having good luck, why not continue with the betting? Perhaps you can become rich and retire soon!"

As the saying goes: nine out of ten gamble fail. Fairly soon, the men has lost all of his money and just as when he wanted to retreat, the voice was heard again: "Isn't you still have the company funds with you? You can use the money to get back what you have lost. It is impossible that you will lose all the money!"

So, the men continued to gamble until he has spent all of his company money. In a gust of fury and regret, the man returned to his room and jumped off the balcony to commit suicide.

Since the suicide, other hotel guests and hotel workers complaint of hearing baby cries in the midst of the night but nothing can be found. Also the wind-bells hanging at the room entrances also fell down inexplicably. There were also sightings of the figure of a man chasing after some crying kids. When the witnesses wanted to stop the man, the man vanished into thin air.

Perhaps that was the restless soul of the man committed suicide wanting to seek revenge over those kid spirits that caused him to lose his money. As the rumor started to spread, the hotel management decided to have the wind-bells taken down for good.

If you are lucky, you might check into a room with a wind-bell. Maybe someone has overlooked this particular one...

Ghost Stories From Genting Highland I (云顶鬼故事I)

The Langsuir Of Genting

Every Malaysian would know that Genting Highland is not only a tourist spot famous of its casino, it is also a place with no less ghost stories. I have collected some of the more well known ones and starting to post a series of Genting Highland ghost stories:

Many years ago, a young couple went up to Genting Highland casino to try their luck. At the beginning, their luck was pretty good and won quite a lot of money. However, once past midnight; they started to lose not only the money they have won, but also their hotel money.

Having no choice, the couple decided to drive home in the midst of the night. Without knowing, their car halted at the waist of the highland due to petrol exhaustion. It was already around 3 a.m. and the road was practically empty and that no one was staying around that place too.

So, the husband asked his wife to stay put in the car while he went to look for help. The wife agreed as she was very tired. Soon after her hubby went off, she too dozed off.

An hour later, the wife suddenly woke up by the sound of a whooshing car. The awakened wife started to feel panic finding herself alone in the car. She started to worry about her husband but due to safety reasons, she dared not get out of the car.

After a while, the lady found something very strange as she noticed that almost all of the car passing by would move at an ordinary cruising speed but when those cars approached her car, those cars would just sped off and whooshed away.

Before the wife can make any sense of what had happened, a police car came from behind but stopped at a distance. Then the lady heard a voice from announcer asking she to get off the car and walk straight towards the police car without looking back.

Though afraid, the wife abidded with the instruction and walked toward the petrol car. Then a policeman rushed out of the petrol car and hurriedly pulled her into the police car.

Due to curiosity, the wife turned her back and saw a langsuir (female vampire) was sitting on her car biting on a human head...

A search and rescue team was dispatched to look for the missing husband and a headless body was found. It was said that this incident has made headlines of that time.

If you happened to be there, perhaps you can ask your tour guide about this bizzare story. A similar story in Karak Highway was also told by highway users.

I Am Pooped! (沉默是金)

This is a flower of arisaema wrayi very nicely indicating my present condition after posting a total of nearly 2,000 postings: "I am pooped!" :P

So, if you have sent me multiples of messages and didn't get a reply, then forgive me for I think I need to keep silent. The flower is yellowish green so is my face and my tongue is sticking as long as well.

Silent will be my sole action for the moment. It is perhaps your turn to talk if you so wish desire or forever hold your silent.

Meanwhile, I am working on other blogs but the progress is very slow. There is no need to ask for access as they shall be opened to all when the materials are enough to share.

If I have something to share, it shall be posted in this blog but if you something to share, then let me know.

Field Walk (田野步行)

Whether one is practising Thai medicine or Thai magic, field walk in an integral part of the training.

Field walk is not the modern day version of 'power walk' stuff.

Field walk to a herbalist and a magician is just like the walking meditation in Theravada Buddhism.

For a herbalist, field walk is performed after the morning prayers to the lineage masters and ancestors. The aims for herbalist field walk are first to look for fresh herbs, the second to have 'conversation' with mother nature and the third is to 'discharge' contaminated energy absorbed while treating patients.

For a magician, field walk is also performed after the morning prayer. The aims are to have conversations with the mother nature as well as to discharge negative energies; and also to sharpen his/her 6th senses.

The difference between walking meditation and field walk is that, walking meditation seeks to tame our mind in order to achieve enlightenment. Field walk on the other hand, aims to seek the help of mother nature to purify a practitioner's aura while attaining new knowledge.

Ideally speaking, field walk should be performed in the wilderness such as jungle or mountain as the air is fresh and free from contamination. However, a recreational garden works fine either though you will get a very different result.

As with walking meditation, field walk requires one to settle his/her mind and that he/she must temporarily discard any type of anticipations. It is best that just let the nature take its course and if field walk is done by others, then talking should be kept to minimum.

The method is simple:

When one starts to walk, he/she can imagine that he/she is at the center of an invisible ball.

As he/she starts to walk, this person can start counting 1-2-3 and walk 3 steps while inhaling with his/her nose. At the same time, he/she can imagine as he/she inhales; external energy enters the ball and the ball started to fit into the person's size.

After the inhalation, the person should hold his breath and his/her visualization and then walk 3 steps while counting 1-2-3.

After holding breath and walked 3 steps, the person shall release his/her breath and walk another 3 steps. And then by holding his/her breath, he/she took another 3 steps.

Simply speaking, the exercise is as follows:

breathe in - hold breath- walk-breathe out-hold breath-walk

After doing this walking exercise for a while, the person shall notice that someone talks to him/her. He/she should just listen to the messages and take note but do not follow any instructions given or the person might be possessed.

The counting of numbers is only for beginers. We can instead think of the words 'how-are-you?' and the effect is the same. `An experience person can coung up to 9 but the main idea is just to relax and enjoy the walk.
